Former Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard filed for divorce from wife Kay’La Lillard just days after being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The seven-time NBA All-Star filed for divorce in Clackamas County Circuit Court on Oct. 2, according to the Willamette Week. According to the filing, Lillard is divorcing his college sweetheart over irreconcilable differences.
According to the newspaper, Kay’La Lillard moved last December, but remained in the same West Linn suburb where Lillard continued to live in the $7.7 million home they had shared.
The couple, who wed in 2021, shared three children together: 5-year-old Damian Jr. and 2-year-old twins Kalii and Kali. The filing indicates the couple signed a prenuptial agreement.
On Sept. 27, Lillard was traded to the Bucks after 11 seasons with the Trail Blazers.
I want to start off by saying this isnt a goodbye, its a see you later,” he wrote in a lengthy message to Portland fans after the trade.
My words have always been from the heart when it comes to you Rip City. I consider you my home as well as many of my family members and that wont change. Ive built my entire adulthood here and made so many friends that I will never forget, he wrote.
The moments on the basketball court as great as they have been, dont even compare to the experience Ive had with all of you. The way you embraced me from day one gave me no choice but to reciprocate the love a thousand times and I dont regret it one bit, he wrote.
The blockbuster trade was a three-team deal that included the Phoenix Suns. The Blazers received Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, while the Suns received Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little and Keon Johnson. Lillard will be joining two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo in Minneapolis.
