Camera maker GoPro on Monday announced that submissions are open for its ‘GoPro Line of the Winter’ video contest, in which skiers and snowboarders can compete for $120,000 in cash prizes.
In the hands of inspired athletes, GoPros have captured some of the most insane ski and snowboard lines we’ve ever seen — from Travis Rice’s incredible pillow line descents to Colby Stevenson’s Million Dollar Challenge-Winning cliff drop, GoPro founder and CEO Nick Woodman said in a statement.
With the GoPro Line of the Winter challenge, we’re giving skiers and snowboarders the chance to share their awesomeness with the world and earn cash awards from GoPro that can help them pursue their passions further, Woodman said.
In order to be eligible, skiers and snowboarders must submit a single, unedited clip captured on any generation of GoPro camera by the athlete themselves. The clip must be shared on social media using the hashtag #GoProLineOfTheWinter and submitted via the GoPro Quik app or at GoPro.com/Awards.
Participants can submit as many videos as they wish, and each video counts as a separate submission, the company said.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of GoPro-sponsored winter athletes, including snowboarding champions Jamie Anderson and Sage Kotsenburg, eight-time X-Games skiing slopestyle medalist Tom Wallisch, three-time Freeride World Tour runner-up Hedvig Wessel, and 16 year-old Teton Gravity Research film star Kai Jones.
Videos will be judged based on athletic performance, video-capture quality and overall ‘wow factor’.
Every month from January to April, one skier and one snowboarder will each be awarded $10,000 for that month’s best line, totaling $80,000 across eight winning video clips. In May, a skier and a snowboarder will be named winners of the ‘GoPro Line of the Winter’ and awarded $20,000 each.
Submissions will close on April 30 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
