A flash flood warning was in effect when the Chicago Bears faced off against the San Francisco 49ers at Soldier Field on Sunday, and the game was played through pooling water. The National Weather Service warned of excessive rain and localized flooding throughout the Chicago metro area on Sunday. A video shared by Twitter user @ChipsYaBoy21 shows water rushing down the stairs in the stands at Soldier Field. Fans, wearing rain gear, can be heard reacting to a play on the drenched field. “Soldier Field was a pool by the end of the game,” he tweeted alongside the video. “Didnt matter- Bears Win.” New Bermuda grass was installed on the field just days before the Bears season opener on Sunday. Grounds crews pushed water off the field throughout the game, and the new turf seems to have held up. The Bears won 19–10. “Thank you to the toughest fans on the planet for sticking it out through the downpour,” Soldier Field tweeted on Sunday. Multiple viaducts flooded on the north side of Chicago Sunday, stranding motorists. The National Weather Service warned of continued flood threats amid moderate to heavy rainfall Monday morning.
