LeBron James broke the NBAs all-time scoring record when he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbars record at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles Tuesday night.
Abdul-Jabbars record of 38,387 career points stood for 38 years, since shortly before the Los Angeles Lakers star was born. James began the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder needing 36 points to overtake the record, and achieved it at the end of the third quarter.
Photos shared by sports commentator Steven Inman show James on an arena TV screen in an emotional moment after becoming the NBAs all-time scoring leader. Another photo shows James alongside Abdul-Jabbar, who was in attendance.
The game stopped temporarily to celebrate the record in a ceremony with Abdul-Jabbar and NBA commissioner Adam Silver, including a video of highlights from James two-decade career.
