Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes overcame an injured ankle to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a 38–35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LVII.
A video shared by Twitter user @JonathanMBeck shows fireworks over downtown Kansas City, Mo., Sunday night after the Chiefs won.
Late in the first half, Mahomes limped off the field at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz., after a tackle by Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards that apparently aggravated a prior ankle sprain. After resting through the halftime performance by Rihanna, Mahomes came back to lead the Chiefs from behind in the second half.
The game was tied 35–35 with just a few minutes left when a defensive holding call against Eagles cornerback James Bradberry helped the Chiefs make it to a game-winning field goal by Harrison Butker.
Mahomes and the Chiefs took home the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second time in four years.
